Is Fascia Release Real?

It depends what you mean by "real".

When people ask whether fascia release is real, I don't think they're usually asking whether fascia exists.

They're asking something bigger.

Does something actually happen?

Can movement, touch or pressure change what we feel?

Can the way we move become different?

And if something does change, does that mean our fascia has been “released”?

Those aren't quite the same question.

We know fascia is real.

Fascia is connective tissue found throughout the body, surrounding and interacting with muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels and other structures.

What becomes less straightforward is the language of “fascia release.”

It's a term used across massage, myofascial work, movement practices and other approaches, and it can suggest a very particular explanation for something that may be more complex.

You might experience a change.

That doesn't necessarily tell us exactly what changed or why.

Experience is still experience.

No two people experience movement in exactly the same way.

Something may feel easier.

A sensation may change.

A movement may become more available.

You may notice something you hadn't noticed before.

Or very little may seem to happen at all.

We don't have to dismiss those experiences because we can't explain every part of them.

And we don't have to turn them into proof of something we don't actually know.

Experience can be interesting without having to prove a theory.

Human Garage® and Fascial Manoeuvres®

Human Garage® explores movement through Fascial Manoeuvres®.

You're invited to move differently and notice what happens.

Not because you're trying to prove anything.

Not because every sensation needs an explanation.

And not because your body is hiding an answer you need to uncover.

Move. Notice. Change something. Notice again.

What happened?

What changed?

What do you actually know from the experience you've just had?

Curiosity has room for everything.

You don't have to choose between science and experience.

You don't have to decide before you've explored.

You don't have to believe every claim you read online.

And you don't have to dismiss your own experience simply because you can't explain it.

There is room for:

I noticed this.

And:

I don't know exactly why.

Both can be true.

Sometimes that's a much more interesting place to begin.

Where can I begin?

If you're curious about Human Garage® and Fascial Manoeuvres®, you can explore the movements privately with me or come to a movement experience when one appears in the diary.
