Awareness Creates Choice

For a long time, I believed change came from trying harder.

Trying to think differently.

Trying to stay calm.

Trying to let things go.

Trying to become a better version of myself.

It was exhausting.

Not because I wasn't trying.

Because I was trying to change something I hadn't yet taken the time to understand.

Everything changed the moment I slowed down long enough to notice.

Not to fix.

Not to analyse.

Simply to notice.

A breath that had become shallow.

A jaw that tightened before difficult conversations.

A stomach that seemed to know something before my mind did.

The more I noticed, the more something unexpected happened.

Choice began to appear.

Before awareness, life can feel automatic.

Something happens.

The body responds.

We react.

The moment passes.

It feels as though there was never another option.

Then awareness enters the conversation.

Not to interrupt the experience.

To include us within it.

There is something extraordinary about being present enough to notice ourselves while life is unfolding.

Not afterwards.

Not once we've calmed down.

In the middle of an ordinary Tuesday.

Halfway through reading an email.

Standing in the supermarket.

Waiting for the kettle to boil.

The smallest moments often become the biggest turning points.

Awareness doesn't ask us to become different.

It invites us to become more intimate with ourselves.

To notice the breath without needing to change it.

To notice tension without making it a problem.

To notice the thoughts, the sensations, the emotions, the movement of the body...

...and to stay.

Not because staying is always easy.

Because relationship grows through presence.

For so much of my life, I believed choice came first.

Choose differently.

Think differently.

Act differently.

Now I see it the other way around.

Awareness comes first.

Choice follows.

Without awareness, we often repeat what has become familiar.

With awareness, something new becomes available.

Not because we've forced it into existence.

Because we've finally seen what was already there.

This isn't about becoming endlessly self-aware.

It's about becoming available to yourself.

There is a difference.

One can become another project.

The other becomes a relationship.

Relationships don't grow through perfection.

They grow through presence.

Through curiosity.

Through returning, again and again.

Settled Body Method was born from that understanding.

Not from a desire to teach people what to do.

From a desire to create enough space for people to discover what they already know.

The body has always been participating.

Always responding.

Always adapting.

Always walking beside us.

Awareness is simply the moment we begin walking beside it too.

Every time we notice, another possibility appears.

Not because awareness changes the past.

Because it changes our relationship with the present.

And from that place, entirely different futures become available.

One breath.

One observation.

One conversation with ourselves at a time.

Awareness creates choice.

Choice creates freedom.

Freedom creates space for a life that is no longer lived on autopilot, but in relationship.

Not only with the body.

With ourselves.

Perhaps that has been the invitation all along.

Not to become someone else.

To become available to the person who has been here all along.

Waiting patiently to be noticed.
